A 3" body lift with a shifter extension installed is way too low. Changing gears is like reaching over to the glove box, wtf . I saw some FX4 shifter rod info but not sure if that would be right for my 93 xlt? It looks like I'll have to have one made and just glue or tape a new **** onto it. Searched FAQ and am stumped. Thanks for any help

 

Hmm, a extension is supposed to make it the same height it was before. I never had a problem in my 02 with the shifter being too short. The fx4 shifter was a direct bolt in for mine and if your has the same install as the newer trucks it will be a direct bolt in for yours too. The fx4 shifter has a different arm angle so it seems to have a different throw.

 

no the fx4 shifter doesnt fit our old gen trucks already tryed. get the extention peice form the body lift company

 

ive never had a problem with mine... i coulda left mine without the extension... and it woulda been fine

 

I was wonderin about doin that for a while, glad to know now it won't fit for sure.

What about the hurst shifter I saw in a "how to" installed in a gen IV?

 

the hurst i have no confomation. i just want the bloody level II shifter!!!! so next year am just going to buy a level II truck to get one!!

 

if it feels like you are changing gears in the glove box, wouldnt the shifter be too long? if its too short, it will hit the square cut out where the stick comes off the tranny before it will fall into gear. didnt put in the extension backwards or somethin? never had a problem with mine. of course its put in correctly.

mine is the exact same place as it was before. I put the extension on there and you'd never know the difference. chech the shift extension 1 more time and make sure it is the right one.

dont get touchy or nothin, just a mistake, we all make them. the real problem is that Benny Skones cant figure out if his shifter is too long or too short!

 

the shifter is too short, like the kid said. he has to lean down too far to reach it. hes not talking about the linkage. hes talking about the part that comes from the floor.

 

Maybe I don't have the extension! The shifter **** almost touches the ashtray in 3rd gear and yes it is too low. I hoped they had put installed the right partswith the lift but maybe not, I'll remove the boot and check! thanks for the help

thats why you do those things yourself so you know they are done right. did my friends f-150 in a backyard with dirt for a floor and it had been raining all day.

 

unscrew your console, lift it up and see if you see something like this down there.

yeah thats bizarre cause I figured that it had one because depite the body being 3 " higher, it seemed that the shifter was angled way different, oh well, i'll check out getting one to fix the problem. thanks again
