I have a 3.0 Auto and 3.73 LS gears in my truck. The highest size tire i'm going up to is 33's and I want some more power when accelerating up hills and starting out. Which gears should I get? Money is really not a problem because my uncle can install them for free so I just have to buy it and he will put it on.

well since it seems that u really wont be doin that much offroad and u want them for pretty much better drivability, go for the 4.10's.. 4,56 would be overkill for u since u dont seem to offroad too much and u arent gonna go up a size in tires at all...

so i say 4.10's

So they will do fine even when I move up to 33's?

i dont know much about gearing

but 4.10 is a stock gearing for a ranger, so it should be easier to find, heck I have it on my 2.3

Althought you have only got 1 axle to regear, I say the power increase from a 3.73 to a 4.10 is only going to be marginal. If you are going to do it (I could live with 3.73s) I would get 4.56s for your troubles.

the only downside to 4.56's is u will be buzzing 4 grand at 85 on the freeway in 5th gear...

bryan is right, if you do mostly highway driving, youll want 4.10s, my ranger with 4.10s and 32s cruises around 3100-3200 rpm at 80mph which is still a bit high i think, with the 4.56 it will be higher rpms than that, so be honest with yourself, if its mostly highway and youre not going higher than 33s, the 4.10s should be perfect for you

I still don't know which one to go with...if it helps I hardly EVER go on the freeway and the fastest I ever go riding around is 60-65 mph.

Ideas for Spare tire holder/rack....

well i still think that on a primarily street ranger, with 33s, i personally would go the more conservative route and go with the 4.10s, they will also get you better gas mileage. NOW, if you took it off road or were planning to go higher than 33s in the future, which it looks like you may according to the plans in your sig, you may want the (numerically) higher gears

The problem with that is 3.73 to 4.10 is not noticeable EVEN if you stay with the same tires. What size tires did you have originally?

If they were around 28" then 33/28 =1.18 3.73*1.18 =4.40
but you would still lose power since they are bigger and take more
power to spin up to speed also more drag with a bigger tire.

In other words dont bother going from 3.73 to 4.10 as you wont notice any difference. If you are going with 32's or 33's I would get 4.56's

If you have an 8.8" rearend I think there is also a 4.30 gear too...

Siunce you don't go high speed too much on the highway, I think 4:56's is way to go! It'll be aittle more expensive on gas but more power and difinally more lowend torque!

I think the 4.30 gearset would be a good compromise. If you were going to 35"s thered be no question, you'd get the 4.56s.

Ah yes, I always forget about the 4.30 option for 2wd, considering they don't make them for both my axles I never really pay attention to it.

Why do you need to go 85mph when the nationwide speed limit is like 70 or 75, not to mention being in a lifted truck

I agree, with my 32's that I just got, I notice that around the 3200-3300 RPM's, with my 4.10 4.0.

although on the other hand, if you want quick pick-up, and don't care bout your gas mileage, i'd say for the 4.56 gears

I'm thinking on going 4.56's here soon. I do a little Highway driving, but mostly city. I really want the acceleration I had when I FIRST bought the truck.

GILDO where's all the pictures of your new tires?
