Icon14 4.88+35's

I love it. Nice power. I'm still having a little transmission shifting weird problem though. It only does it on light throttle, so I just left the neg battery terminal off for 20 mins, I'm going to go make the computer re-learn. It was having trouble holding 3rd gear, no others though.

And it was right after I changed my alt (same day I put 35's on) (I unplugged the battery and the computer must have re-flashed, and sensed the big load and told it not to hold the gear, and to downshift, which now it doesn't need to!)

So in all...35's and 4.88's are nice!!! I love it. I haven't been on the hwy or towed yet, so thats a whole nother ball park.

Next step...manny conversion. I'm having too many auto problems. Anyone got any input? It would just be a straight foward 2wd auto ----> manual conversion (yes I saw maurice's thread)

nice.....the auto to manual conversion on a 2wd would be easier than on a 4wd.....no transfer case or transfer case wiring to deal with.....

Yea, well, big problem. My tranny just gave out. That 3rd gear mis-shift exacerbated itself and took out the gearset. Now I have to do something major.

It's either trade the ranger and buy a cummins, or manual swap. I'll figure it out tommorow.

considering he just blew his tranny, i doubt he'd be able to tell you how it drive on the highway, unless you wanna kno how the tow truck drives. kidding...kinda...

ricky-

sucks to hear about your misfortune, things always happen for a reason right? maybe you'll be better off with a manual swap!

^Ya I'm with Maurice, you should have a warranty on your rebuilt tranny. Don't trade the truck.

Yup, 12 month 12k miles. I'm at 35k miles and more than 12 months! He said he would work a deal, which he always does with me...but the huge problem is that I DO NOT want to drop more money on the auto than it would be to manual swap it.

I don't want to have to worry about my tranny heating up and things like that. I can deal with a burnt clutch, takes me 4hrs to replace that, but the auto, I have no idea even where to begin!

I just dropped it off at the shop, I'll update when I hear more.

On the HWY, I was going 70 at 2700rpms almost 2800. Only problem is I can't guarantee the accuracy of the rpms because I can almost bet my transmission was slipping. But that was ON GPS.

It's a nice feeling on the street, I'd say definetly 4.88's. My transmission was acting up when I got it back (it was worse before I put it in to get the gears) but I could tell a night and day difference. It isn't more "powerful" persay. It just adds a little pickup. But bets are that my transmission was slipping...so it probably adds more power than I felt.

Definetly 4.88 though. Revs aren't bad at all.

You probably will get 13-14 mpg. 220 to a tank or 200. I'm not really sure.

Highway, I was going 70 at 2800rpms.

Is your truck shifting into OD?

I was on 4.10 and 33 running 3100 rpms at 65 with OD off.

BTW, just got the truck back, it drives great. Intermediate servo went out. I'll still be collecting for manual swap, just not as actively!

I'd swap with you :)

I don't know how hard it would be, but everything I have you would need, and everything you have I would need...

I'm always down for a little working on the trucks

I got a 2200 dollar transmission under my truck, I can't make any promises that you won't need to replace servos (it shifts smooth and firm, they just go for some reason, i don't know why) which are 70 a pop. I have done 3 and 2 were under warranty.

But either way, I want a manny tranny!!! I love shifting...I use to have a 88 CRX as my DD and it was manual, I love it.

Yup.

I don't MIND it, I'd just rather shift. But for now, I'll say I'm going to wait until my auto breaks, I'd rather lift my ATV than swap a manual in.

I still need to do some stuff to the truck as well, I want intake, new exhaust, and reverse lights :)

And maybe linex.
