So I was in upstate NY this weekend and they got a few inches of snow. My wife and I headed out to the store and on the way back we got stuck on a hill. I tried 4 wheel high and 4 wheel low. I had my wife get out to see what the wheels where doing since she did not want to try driving it. Her observation was that the two right wheels were not turning. I literally had the truck going up the hill at a 45 degree angle. Once at the top it rolled down the road just fine. I am not familiar with the 4x4 drive train’s internal parts and how they should operate. If you have any suggestions as to what might invoke this type of behavior I would appreciate your comments.

The truck is a 1999 ranger 4x4 Flex fuel

probably the limited slip differential, it will transfer the torque to the wheels that need it. do a google search on how limited slip differentials work, as I probably cant explain it very well.
