Bought a 96 Ranger Splash with 4.0 and it's got the 4r55e. No 2nd or 3rd gear engagement and long delay going into D when cold. I went to replace the valve body with a rebuilt one and noticed a chunk of metal in the pan. Looks like half of the intermediate band stud. Can this be replaced without pulling the transmission down and fully opening it up?
I'm not 100% sure, but with my a4ld experience... if you loosen the band nut all the way and take the valve body out, you may be able to fish it out in the opening in the bottom of the case. Like I said i'm not 100% sure but It may be worth it to pull the trans and overhaul anyway, most likely there is more wrong with it. Hope that helps some
