4R55E Overdrive
4R55E Overdrive
I recently bought a 96 Ranger with 4R55E trans. It is not shifting to OD.
I changed the filter and fluid, at the same time found the wiring harness in the pan was trashed, nearly all of the insulation was cracked off the wires. So I replaced the harness.
I had Autozone check for error codes and they showed error P0761 Shift solenoid. I am not sure which solenoid is OD, I note there are four on one side and two on the other, I believe the one in question is directly across from the 4. I pulled out the solenoids and checked them with a 9v battery, they all clicked open. Put the truck back together and still no OD.
Any help is appreciated.

An update on this whole thing. Overdrive started working but there is now a different weird issue.
If I try to start with OD off, the truck lurches, almost doesn't want to go. Leaving OD on and everything seems fine. Shifting at around 15-18, 30-33, and OD kicks in around 43. Engine RPM at 60mph drops from 3200 to 2200.
I see a lot of views to this thread but I guess no-one knows anything about transmissions here.
