hi i just bought this 01 ranger and i knew the 4x4 didnt work one day i had to reset battery and tried 4x4 it worked then few wks later i didnt work reset battery it worked know it dont work anyone know what could cause it to only work after battery reset thanks

what light on dash would throw codes for 4x4 if its the 4x4 light then no .anyone else know wat could be wrong

Mine is pretty much doin the same thing except I have to pul/replacel the fuse. I can tap the motor on the transfer case and it works so Im fairly sure its the motor. I will take apart and clean come spring time. If that doesnt do the trick I will replace it. Ya might try that.

 

I have a question.... My 4x4 went out completely... I used it the other day, to flex it up on some sandbags on the curb so I could pressure wash from underneath, and it worked fine... I went to use it tonight, and it wouldnt go in to 4H or 4L. It did this once before too, but was fixed in 5 minutes,... I tried for 45 minutes to get it working, and nothing.

 

Do the lites come on on the dash when you first start it? If yes then probably the shift motor, maybe it came unplugged. If there is no 4 hi/4 low lites on the dash, its probably the 4x4cm. That was my problem, I replaced the 4x4cm and all is working as it should. Seems like the cm goes out just like that with no warning.

 

checked it again this morning, same thing, no 4x4. No lights came on when I started my truck. Could be a loose connection, or bad unit. Where is the CM and how much is it to replace?

 

Its behind the passanger side kick panel. I would check all the connections first before you buy a new one. I got mine from here. You have to call them with your VIN and yr. I believe I paid 135.00
