So I've heard 5R55 is notorious for not being very strong. Was never really an issue until I mounted my 33's. Anyone know what this is due to? can be done to prevent/solve this problem???

 

It wasn't an issue 'till you are running 33's? What is the issue you are having? To solve the problem or issue, you need ot have a problem or issue.

Mine was strong, and all the times I beat on it -- it kept itself together. I did smoke a German built Getrag 6-speed in my SVT Focus though, so I guess anything is possible.

 

i never heard of many problems with the newer 5r55es...maybe the Al4d or older 5r55/5r44/4r44s...

 

I would put a shift kit in it, my 5r44 with 35's shifts waayyy too long from 1-2. Whenever it drives again i'm definately puttin the shift kit in there so i don't burn up the clutches any more.

 

Not having any problems, just don't want any really. I gonna install a bigger tranny cooler with a fan and trans temp gauge. I wsh they made a finned aluminum pan for this tranny. Do you have to do a V8 swap in order to be able to use a 4R70W?

No problems. I just don't wanna find out later on the side of the road where it is that those trannies fall short.

 

Heat kills an auto tranny. keep it clean and keep it cool. add a cooler, change the fluid 10-15K and check periodicly for fluid conditon and level. doing that should ensure a long living tranny.
