i Have a 08 4.0l 4x4 and at just 20,000km i lost 5th gear and second when its cold im wondering if anyone has ran into this prob before.By cold im mean -10c or colder until it warms up. Oh i forgot to add its an auto.

 

Does the truck shift into fifth after it warms up (i.e. after driving a few miles)? If so, this is pretty normal with automatics, no matter the make or model of truck. My GM pickups did the same thing. I don't think I lose second, but if it's cold I have to drive 2-4 miles before the transmission is warmed up enough to lock up the torque converter and stay in 5th.

 

do you get an overdrive light flashing at all? i got the light on mine and then lost 5th. Dealership replaced the transmission under warranty

 

no it never goes into 5th the od light starts flashing.

sounds like a new transmission for you... im assuming with the year and mileage you still have warranty?

 

yup its under warranty but i hope this doesnt become a frequent happening.
