7.5 upgrades

i know before i even start this you guys are going to say go with a 8.8 but i think my 7.5 can handle anything my 4 banger with 31's can throw at it so im not worried about swaping it out plus a jy 8.8 runs $400-$500 around here

anyone got anything bad to say about this i can pick it up right now shipped to the door for $185

I'd go with a gear driven limited slip and Yukon gears with a master install kit, but what you have listed will work. Then again I probably wouldn't spend that much on a 7.5.

What is the weight difference between a 7.5" and 8.8"?

Personally I would go with a selectable locker and C-clip eliminators if it applies.

The main thing I need is a regear figured while I had it apart I would add l/s a gear driven l/s is big money and I'm not sure if they even make one for the 7.5 and the only locks I know of are automatics realistly for what I use the truck for I think a l/s would be better

Hi Guys, thought I'd latch on to this recent post, instead of starting a new one, seeing as it looks like silverfox and I have the same predicament, save that I don't have to rebuild my 7.5 rear end yet. Why the regear, SF? new ratios?
Anyway, I am not worried about dry pavement traction, I'm concerned with gravel/ logging roads traction, and traction in snow, where a locker won't make any difference to tire wear I figure a locker would work, or swap in a Torsen (seems like a lot of work, kudos to Masteratarms)
What are the various options, and what are the costs of the various options?
Has anybody done these swaps themselves?
Leadfoot, I assume by selectable, you mean either locked or open, which sounds fine.

Wirelessly posted (Droid X)

The 7.5 is junk... go with an expo 8.8 with disc brakes. Those mostly have limited slips and they're 31 spline shafts. Id just find a 4.10 8.8 from a 94+ expo

After doing some research, I'm leaning towards a Richmond Lock-right (#1830), Seems like only good reviews.
I hear you on the 7.5 to 8.8 switch, and may go that way, but the 7.5 meets most of my needs.
