Selectable locker for 2002 FX4?
Hey
YOu guys are confusing me! I know that Aussie Lockers and maybe Ected's can work in my 2002 FX4 but I'm not sure which (if any) selectable locker will work in my truck. I've had the experience of slogging along the side of a hill and needing to turn UP hill and not being able to turn without coming out of fourwheel drive because the front end wanted to keep going straight so want to be able to "un lock" when I need it. How about the E-locker? I'd rather run wires than air lines. Any other ideas?
Thanks, in advance, for your help.

no one makes a selectable locker for the front dana 35 that is in 1998 to present rangers. You have 2 locker choices Aussie and Locker Right. Also Summit carries a limited slip for the dana 35 but I don't know of anyone that has tried it yet.
Limited slip:

What do y'all think?
I Just can't tell which of the available options will work best in the front of an IFS Ranger. It seems that an aussie or other automatic locker may be real trouble. in some circumstances. There is supposed to be a Torsen available for the front of these trucks now. That's what I have in the rear. Maybe that would be a better choice than a locker?

for Dana model 30 & 35 axles.
These new differentials fit a wide range of vehicles including Jeep, Ford, Dodge, and some earlier Scout II axle applications. Please check with your warehouse distributor for application approval. The Auburn Locking differential provides the latest in traction technology and enables the driver to select the mode, which best suites the driving conditions. When "off" the Auburn locker functions as a limited slip differential. When the dash-mounted switch is in the "on" mode the differential becomes a locker, which is ideal for the drag strip or off-road terrain.
The following part numbers are being offered:
Part Number Axle Spline Application
545012 27T Dana 35-3.31:1 ratio & down
545013 27T Dana 35-3.55:1 ratio & up
545014 30T Dana 35-3.31:1 ratio & down
545015 30T Dana 35-3.55:1 ratio & up
545016 27T Dana 30-3.55:1 ratio & down
545017 27T Dana 30-3.73:1 ratio & up

Yeah the 98+ uses a shortened D35 carrier, while the older TTB uses a normal D35 carrier so the two are not interchangeable.
Auburn has made the D35 selectable for a while, and there are a couple of other selectables made for it. The problem is that the 98+ uses a carrier that is not the normal D35 carrier so lockers and L/S units listed for "D35" will not fit the 98+ ranger D35.

Torsen coming this summer
I just got an email from Torsen. They've gone a diff coming for the front of my 2003 this summer. That's what I have in the back from the factory and I like it for all but just one thing. If one wheel is completely in the air all the torque goes to that wheel. Its a torque bias thing as the torque that goes to the wheel with traction is a multiple of what is going to the slipping wheel. The problem is that 2.5 X 0 is still zero. I've learned in those situations to lightly ride the brakes which really gets the other wheel turning. Its not quite what I wanted but it won't wear out, is unlikely to break axles and will be more drivable than a mechanical locker.

So I finally got an answer from torsen. I will post up what I sent them as well:
Question:
Hi. I read somewhere that your company produced a front locker for the 1998
and up Ford Ranger IFS. Is this true. Thank you for the info.

Response:
We offer our ECTED for the 8.8 for the IFS and IRS.
Take a look at our catalog for this information.
P.S: For a subject I put Front Locker for the Dana 35 in 98+ Ford Ranger with IFS

What ford vehicle uses a 8.8 IFS? Expedition/F150?
Edit: Googe is my friend. Looks to be that newer F150's use a 8.8 front IFS. Unless you find something that specificly says the ected is available for the ranger D35 I dont think there is one.
