98 flywheel pilot bearing
98 flywheel pilot bearing
Hi Fellas,im doing job on my 98 2wd 4.0 ranger ,Ithought the prob was the throwout bearing, turns out to be a bad pilot bearing. The gal i bought the truck from last year had a clutch installed, figured i was good to go for a while.But....her mechanics didnt bother with a slave cylinder which is now leaking
or a piolt bearing now shot to hell
Anywho i got it apart on my driveway my ?s are...the LUK clutch, pressure plate, and fly wheel look like new maybe 7k miles would you reuse them ?? also what size socket do i need for the flywheel bolts i guess they are E torx ?? i rented a slide hammer tool but it not getting out the remains of the bearing if i remove flywheel can i drive the race out from the back ??Thanks!

Yes, if you remove the flywheel you can get the bearing out...at least on my 01 and 04 you could.
I THINK the Etorx is an 8 or 12, can't remember right now. In any case, a set should not cost too much.
I reused my clutch and pressure plate when I did my 04 (had about 15k on them), that was over 60k ago and it's been fine. No way I'd do a Ranger clutch w/o doing the slave though, and you see why!
