98 2.5 5 speed truck that all gears take nicely except 2nd once and a while. It always goes n and doesn't make any noise, but sometimes you really need to pull down to make it engage...but if I go slow and low rpm in first and shift, it seems to make it a bit easier going into second. I may change the fluid to see if it helps, or do I have bigger problems internally?

 

sounds like the syncro may be bad

 

I was hoping that's not the case, is there any good quality fluid I can change it out with and see if that helps?
