Added a tranny cooler fan - Results

The OBD2 system on fords have a "TQ into converter" parameter.
I data logged that info and then charted it in excel. The "HP" part is simply a calculation. Which most people don't comprehend anyway... The is no such thing as HP in a modern car. But lets not open that can of worms in this post.

What scanner/tuner did you use?

Oh and on the mechanical fan thing. Yes it did pull a constant flow accross the tranny cooler. However the tranny cooler in its stock location is about 4" from the rad. There is nothing between the two ***and*** the cooler is 2/3rds blocked by the bumper support. The air flow was no where near stong enough to hold up a piece of paper. (I tried it)
In the stock configuration the cooler sees very little air flow across it.
Yes it's true that I have to run my e-fans now when I'm sitting still. But when moving I've proven it's not an issue at all. Actually, 95% of the time during my daily driving here in SE Michigan my fans never come on at all when set on auto (212 degrees).

That particular data log was done with autotap. But the exact same thing can be done with the SCT X-cal2. And I believe that scangauge is working on having the same data logging abilities too.
As long as my fans are running, I have more cooling potential than the stock fan offered.
Bob/guys.. It's all a trade off. Mech vs e-fan, stock FEAD speeds vs UNP. Vehicle sitting still vs at speed. It's always a trade off. At Ford we had to engineer for the worst possible situations because we never know where a car is going to wind up. For me personally, I am in tune with my vehicle and understand all those trade-offs. I'm interactive with my cars and simply do what I have to to maximize efficiency (power and MPG).
Make no mistake that I'm not advocating everyone run out and put one of these on thier ranger. What I'm trying to do is give a point of reference for folks who are interested in such mods.
I should be making the trip down next week. The hotel has internet and I'll post up what observations I encounter along the way. If anyone sees a good lookin red FX4 ranger with a 18ft bay behind it.. give a shout out and point to the next best BBQ joint in the area.

Actually Bob, he isn't lying. Even the crappy Jusnes efan flows more air when running than the stock mechanical fan.
Are you going down I-65 or I-75? If you come down I-65, let me know when you will be near Louisville and we will meet up if you have time. I will show you a good BBQ joint

There is a favorite spot I like to stop for lunch though. The southbound rest/welcome area about 10 miles into KY. It's about the perfect 1/2 way point for us.

LOL.. on my last trip down I was by myself (on company money) and ate at 5 different BBQ places. Got ribs all 5 times too.
On this trip I'm wanting to try a place out in Tellico plains.
It's one of my lifes goals to either find the best BBQ.. and/or make it myself.
So far my fav is actually a chain. http://www.famousdaves.com/ Thier ribs are AWSOME.

Gee, if it existed, you should be able to see the part listed somewhere??
You mean you couldn't find it in your tranny kits anywhere???
You previously claimed that the "thermo fluid valve" existed in a tranny kit!
Here is the link you posted, where is it?

Just talked to a local tranny rebuild shop, there isn't a tranny that changes ATF flow to the cooling lines based on temp....the flow to the cooling lines is constant. The guy did verify, however, that the pump high pressure is controlled by the PCM in modern tranies.......

I'm very familiar with pump design. (axial, mixed, and radial flow) The point here is that you claim BS. The ownis belongs to you on this one Bob.
Again, got proof of what you say?

I like a local place called "Fire Fresh BBQ". The food is good. The interior decor is nice too (the owners dad is retired Louisville FD and it is decorated in LFD items).

I've even been over to that buffet place in owensboro ky www.moonlite.com It was "ok" and I'll applaud them for value. $15 a head is pretty good. But the quality of food just didn't grab me all that much.
My 2nd fav in Mich is a little place in Adiran. Randys road side BBQ.
And in Tenn so far I like www.calhouns.com
But when it comes to the best that I've experienced.. famous daves is hard to beat. The dry rub, and amount of smoke flavor is just not matched.
Don't get me started!!

LOL.. no answer huh Bob.
As far as calcs.. the blades don't overlap. There-for pressure is not build up within the fan itself. So.. you can't do a simple calc for the fan alone. You'd have to take into account the environment. Which is just way to complicated of a task just to play cat and mouse with a fellow on the internet, One who makes claims and then can't back up thier assertion.
But hey.. what do I know?

I know where your claim came from, the e-fan manufacturer, which is BS!!!!
As for the environment, the full shroud of the mechanical fan will have the advantage over the e-fan. But just for comparison, you can assume neither the e-fan or mechanical fan has a shroud.

Bob, staright and simple, you don't have a clue. Just like every other thread on efans, you think you know everything and are proven wrong time and time again. I say it is time for you to "hit the road jack...don'tcha come back here no more no more no more, hit the road jack"....
#75
If I remember correctly, you proved yourself wrong on the last e-fan thread!!!
Are you still working on the battery/alternator question I gave you??
