Trac Loc on a 2.3???
Would it be beneficial at all to put one on my truck? I mean the thing only has about 90hp. Would turning both wheels put even more of a strain on the already unbelievably sad engine and make it even slower? Also, for those that don't know, I'm lowered, but I would like to have a little bit of extra push for when it starts getting muddy around here ( and for when I decide to play in a muddy field by myself). I dropped my daughter off at school today and almost got stuck in the field b/c it's been raining for the past 2 days. Had all the other parents watching me.
One more thing, how hard of an install is this? Any ideas of about how long it would take to do?
Thanks - T

do limited slip instead. you'll feel better when you break 'em loose. and you'll do better in the rain than with trac-loc (posi is a chebby term!!! hehe). add some power boosters like intake, exhaust, bamachip, throttle cable, electro fan, etc. etc. shouldnt cost much more than $1000 for EVERYTHING and your power will be ALOT better than 90. mayber like 92 or something! lol. seriously, do the basic mods to help out. if it aint enough, turbo or nitrous.
or just lift it and put some all terrains on it.

Traction Loc is Ford's trade name for limited slip, just like PosiTraction is for GM. It is a clutched limited slip, not a locker.
A Traction Loc doesn't affect the truck when traveling straight ahead, so it won't sap the power of a 2.3L. IMO, it is a good addition to any pickup that will see poor traction situations.

An open differential allows unlimited speed differential between the tires on an axle. This allows the vehicle to turn smoothly but it also means that if you completely lose traction on either side, you are stopped.
A limited slip is exactly that. It uses a clutch or other frictional means to limit the amount of speed differential allowed between the left and right tire. You can still corner easily but chances of being stuck are reduced.
A locker uses a mechanical means to lock the differential under certain conditions so that the tires travel exactly the same speed. Lockers are usually noisier than limited slip while turning.
Limited slip is the better option for a vehicle that primarily sees street use. A locker provides better performance in challenging off-road conditions.
