ok 1st question- do they make 4.30's for the front of my 98 ranger it has a 7.5 rear, i am planning on getting an 8.8 so i can get them for the rear and i need to know if they make them for the front, and my other question what would the best vehicle to take the axle out of?

well then i dont know what to get for gears but i think im still gonna get the 8.8 any suggestions 4.10 ive heard are too high for the 3.0 and 4.56 to low

 

what are you doing? 4.56 are proly too high for stock tires but would be good for 33s and would work for 35s. If your going to keep it stock id just get rid of the 7.5 and get 4.10s

 

4.56's on a 3.0 and 35's are not a good choice.....if he is going with 33's on a 3.0, then 4.56's are a good idea......

I totally disagree. I'm running 4.56 on 3.0. If you have an automatic in particular 4.56 is great. I haven't done it with a manual though.

4.56 gears with 35's ends up giving you about the equivalent of a 3.93 or so ratio -- better than the stock 3.73 most 3.0's come with. You can turn 35's just fine with 4.56's and not take as much of a hit in day-to-day use.

But again: manual transmissions are a whole 'nother deal. Still, the final gearing isn't that different so you're still talking about turning a lot of revs on the highway if you go numerically higher than 4.56.

Manual or auto? For auto 4.10 should be fine. Might want 4.56 for a manual with 33's.

If you intend to go higher in the future, put the higher gears in now, lol -- it's a bit of expense and work you don't want to do twice.

 

DItto. I ran 3.73 with 33s for a while and it was do able. 4.10s we not much better. Im regeaering to 4.88 so that i can eventually run 35s. I also have a manuel. I say go for 4.56. its a pretty expensive procedure your not going to want to do it twice

a manual should take less gearing, an auto robs power to an extent, a manual will not.

I also have been lookin in getting new gears but also a larger rear axle...I got a 97 4.0L auto tranny 3.73 gears in the rear and I'm runnin 33/12.50, what would be the best for me?
