your front DS will still work. it will just start to wear out prematurely... it should still be good for another 10-20,000 miles.. or so before it fails.. that gives you time to save up.. and the pre key i believe is for the 08+ rangers that sit lower than previous years.. they can swap the keys from a 98+ ranger with torsion bars and gain more lift... i THINK!

You can make yourself a Superlift shaft using a 95-97 Explorer shaft from a junkyard($50 or so), getting the adaptor for your current tcase($75-100), then getting that shaft shortened($50-$80). I built mine using brand new components at the cost of just under $300. I think it can easily be done for under $200.
Here's a nice very informative thread about the Superlift shaft alternative: https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...riveshaft.html
As said earlier, PreKey has to do with 08+ torsion bar trucks...your truck already has the PreKeys in it.

Would it be better if I said some dude in texas inspired me to build my shaft....and he and I were racing to see who's shaft got done first? I won, he slacked? lol.
Eric Griggs aka RangerNVS has a shaft that is very similar to mine with almost the same end cost out of pocket, but I paid less. lol.

In that thread I linked, look at about page 6 for the links Zabeard posted. I think you can order them online from Six States Distributers for like $80...but it has been a while since I've clicked the links.
I don't remember the measurement needed....I bolted on the adaptor, then measured half moon to half moon. The guy at Six States measured the truck as well.
