boosted 2004 ranger with driveline issues

I just bought this SUPERCHARGED 2004 tremor/ranger and it seems that it was ridden hard and put away wet, So, last week I posted that I had dropped the truck off at my local guy b/c of clunking while shifting thru the gears. I was told that the whole rear end is toast and, was quoted between 1100-1300 to swap out the entire axle with another unit that's still in spec(hopefully). My question is why wouldn't I just buy the parts to rebuild the whole assembly.. theoretically couldn't I just rebuild a unit that I find form a junk yard in the back of the bed, right? I just think it would be nice not to have to worry about breaking somethin else since im putting down and pavement smashing 230 rear wheel horsepower..

Seems like a lot for a rebuild. I would just get the truck back and swap a 31 spline Expo axle from a junkyard.

X2 on the expo axle. I swapped mine and couldn't be happier. Plus it only cost $200 after it was all said and done.

love my expo axle, disk brakes are nice too. heck most of the time you can get them with a limited slip too. the axle tubes, axle shafts, and bearings are all bigger for the added weight of the expo. i think it would be the best route for you. there is however some small fabrication needed. you will need to get shock tabs, and relocate spring plates as well. its all easy work to do really.
