Burning Clutch
Burning Clutch
Hey Guys, I have a 95 Ranger 4.0l 5 speed. About a month ago I got stuck in my back yard trying to pull a trailer out. I was going uphill in about 5in of dry powdery snow. After a bit of backing up and going forward over and over again I starting burning my clutch badly( thick white smoke and powerful smell). After that day I had let it sit for a long time and the other day I drove it to work and I could smell a slight burning smell. The truck drove fine with no slipping but the smell concerns me. I checked the fluid and it was good. I'm thinking I need a new clutch but before I spend the money I would like to hear other opinions. maybe I'm wrong and its something else.
Thanks
Thanks
I would run it a while to see if it slips again. You know its slightly compromised, just be easy on it and you'll get decent life out of it. I'm on the original clutch and it's let smoke out twice now. 112k miles
