clutch wierd after long drive

I've had no problem with the clutch...except for the occational push to get it in 1st.

I've noticed lately that after a long drive on the highway (a couple of hours) and I go to downshift (like when downshifting getting off an exit) the clutch pedal feels wierd. It feels a little stiff/heavy... but it works fine.

I pull the stick out of gear, it goes away. Clutch returns as normal. Never to be seen again.
If I keep it in the same gear, I can keep pressing the clutch in and out and it continues to feel heavy. The second I pull it out of gear ( in this case 5th) then it goes away.

Only happens on a long trip. I drive it back and forth to work every day in highway/city traffic and it never happens.

I'm stumped... Is it heat? Maybe time for a fluid change? I'm hoping it's not the slave cylinder.... but I'd see it happen more than just during a long drive if it was?

how many miles do you have on the clutch? mine started doing the same thing recently.... only mine would go away after pumping the clutch a few times. i never did figure out exactly what caused it, but i had the clutch replaced a week or so later (it had 116,000 on the original and was on its way out) and they said the fluid was pretty bad, so maybe that has something to do with it.

It's got 117,000 km (or 73,000 miles).

I've heard one theory that air pressure builds up over a long period of time during the drive if the cap for the reservoir has the vent clogged...

I've searched the web pretty long now, and have heard of vehicles doing this from day one. So who knows?

I'll change the fluid... see if that helps.
