Compatible Transfer Case

Well it's time for a new case bigtime! It has always made a grinding noise in 4LO, but a few months back, the chain began slipping, i believe. I thought my rear end was going out but when i put the truck in 2WD it no longer slipped. So im done with this case and ready for a new one and i have a large budget for this :) I would love to do a NP205 Gear Driven Twin Stick. I know a lot of you are probably thinking this is retarted but i really want the twin sticks and i really want a reliable case. So if anyone has attempted this or if anyone can give me some advice on where to get started i would appreciate it. Thanks guys!

Well after doing a little more research i decided idk if i wanna run the 205. So if i cant find the 1354 anywhere near me but can find the 1350. How hard would it be to put a manual 1350 in it? I know i would need a different front drivshaft, but since im going from an automatic to manual, what else do i need to get?

1350 is the manual version of yours?

if i remember correctly from others who have done it, i think it's just a matter of bolting it in, getting trim pieces and putting it all together, the plate in the floor i believe should just be bolted in place... i don't remember if the driveshaft lengths are the same, i don't think so though, esp the front

you need to go 1354....unless you wanna have new shafts made up. Both don't share the same shaft types and mounts...

if you go 1354, it'll be all bolt-in except the front shaft. but you can rip one of those out of a 95-97 expo.

Your '99 most likely already has the threaded bungs on the trans tailhousing for hte linkage.

Search! TONS and TONS and TONS of threads in regards to manual tcase swaps. Where it gets complicated and uuber hard(not literally hard, but parts availablity) is when you've got an 01+ manual trans as 99.999% of them do not have the threaded bungs.

You can easily piece you together a junkyard setup for not a whole lot or if you have a large budget start searching Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market for a 02-03 Level II transfer case setup. There is one in Louisiana for $550 which is insanely high for just the T-case but if you can get ALL the other Level II parts included it would be a fair price. Also you want a reliable case but then are considering a 1350 case over the 1354.

F the Levell 2 ****... yes it lewks nice but honestly its useless... spend no more than 200 bucks on a man Tcase swap.. find a nice cheap 1354 and a shaft... just get the simple plain black plastic bezels and boot and call it good...

So can anyone tell me what all vehicles I can find a 1354 manual in? There is a pull a part about 20 minutes from my house and I will do the online inventory check if I can know what all vehicles to look for. Thanks again guys.

1990-1995 rangers and 1991-1995 explorers. Get the drive shaft from a 1995-1996 explorer only. i walked a yard for over an hour yesterday and looked at probably 25 explorers and a handful of rangers and had no luck. all i found was a 1995 drive shaft in the back of an explorer. Good luck to ya.

02 & 03 Ranger FX4 Lvl II
If you find one, get everything that has to do with the T/C.
The T/C itself, the Linkage, the Shifter and the Bezel and Boot.
If you have a 5-sp and the truck you find is a 5-sp get that shifter and boot too all part of it, (they look good, like *******).

Just pretty much the early 90's Rangers and Explorers. In the Mid to late 90's most vehicles were becoming auto shifts. I believe the last years of Manual T case as an option in any Ranger was in 97 then they brought them back just in 02-03 in the FX4 Level II's.

Here is my old Manual T-case swap thread.

And also I'm wandering about the floorplate. If i pull the floor plate out of an earlier ranger/explorer will it bolt in to my 99'?

The T/C is covered.
The Floor Plate - get one maybe you can use it as a pattern to cut yours or adapt it to your truck.
I for one do not think you will find an FX4 Lvl II but good luck it if do get everything it has to offer.
