when im driving i hear this constant squeek coming from the front end, its not like a break squeek. it stays the same tone no matter what speed and it stops when i stop, only thing i can think of is maybe the bearings. any inputs. all inputs help.

 

Could be the grease seal on the steering knuckle where the outer CV turns. They often develop a high pitched squeal when the grease dries out or when operated in dusty conditions. It that's it, greasing the seal where it contacts the CV can make it go away. If I took it apart for that, I'd throw in a new seal and lube it with hi-temp wheel bearing grease.

Anyone know how to replace this seal? Have everything apart right now to change the hub and I think the seal might be bad. Not really sure what it should look like. If its not to hard i would put one on right away.

 

It is the only seal pressed into the steering knuckle itself. Look where the half shaft passes into the knuckle.

 

Its definitly torn then because its not attached on the knuckle side. Think its possible to replace it without their 'special' tool? Guess there's only one way to find out...

 

I think that you should be able to finesse it in with a flat-ended punch. Be sure to grease the new seal where the axle passes through.

 

Thats what I'm hoping. Would i have to take the knuckle off to get at it? Thinking maybe if i turn the wheel enough the half shaft will clear and i can drop it out of the way. Thanks for the help Bob, I'm sure I will be back tomorrow morning after having another look at it!
