Icon4 converter unlocking???

my truck is an 02 ranger 3.0 4x2 ext cab it has 90,000 miles on it. the problem im having is when im driving down the highway at 70mph every once in awhile it seems like the torque converter unlocks and then in about 5-10 seconds it will lock back up and drive fine. the o/d light doesnt blink and no cel. i drive 60 miles to work and back and it does it on an average of 4-5 times a day. im starting to think it may be a lockup solenoid or torqe converter problem. if yall have any sugestions i would appreciate it, thanks.....

It might also be time for a flush.

flushing it might make it worse if its really bad and sliping like that, the metel shavings are what are keeping it together if you flush it the clutches inside will have too much play

It could start again after some "learning". It could actually be based on load -- but then again it really could be a noisy sensor. Small slopes can cause enough load change that the tranny controller unlocks it.

SORRY this is off topic but is there a way of adjusting the tranny controler to change the load settings? Maybe a tuner?

Yes. I have an older SCT Xcalibrator and you can use the Extreme Tune software with the right kind of unlocked tune file to change the relationship between throttle position and RPM with regard to upshift/downshift.

May be possible with the newer ones, but you have to get the right kind of tune file or it won't work.

The only thing I've tweaked on mine is the line pressures though -- the shift strategy hasn't been an issue.
