Driveline chatter?

When I start moving from a stop I get sort of a chatter in the driveline which goes away almost instantly. I checked the U-joints and they are fine. Could it be the spline joint where the driveshaft enters the trans? Maye it needs to be greased?
It's an 01 Ranger 4.0L 5 sp AOD 4 X 4. Thanks

Does it happen in turns, or only on straights, or both?

i may be thinking the same thing as john, when you say "chatter" i think differential. not sure if the LS gets a chatter or not, i thought that was only automatic lockers, but it could be something to look into

Here's some other things to try and report on:

1. Put the tranny in low and take off -- still do it?

2. Put the tranny in 2 and take off -- still?

3. Will it do it in reverse?

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I'll try what you guys suggest but it only does it on immediate take-off, just the first 1 or 2 feet. I've never really noticed it while backing up.

Make sure all your lug nuts are tight also. Long story but I had a wheel almost fall off coming down the mountain out of Frackville. Not fun.

I just replied to two threads in which users are having the same symptoms. There is a TSB for this driveshaft failure. Check out the following thread:

https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...d=1#post109625

I'll post a copy of the TSB as soon as I can dig it up.
