take the wheel off make sure your CV boot is good..no grease thrown anywhere..

make sure your caliper bolts are tight..and your caliper isnt frozen shut..

haha man you have an OPEN front diff...only a pinion and some gears that left front wont spin..

BUT with no weight on the bastard it should spin backwards..id say grab the front CV and just pul on er..does it move? rattle? anything? and id she ahs lots of play id be rippen the diff out and takin the cover off..might have something wrong in the pionion or mini axle

ID ALSO be careful doing it but try and spin it while the rest are..it if grabs and goes backwards well it should be ok..

Spin the good one forwards when locked in 4x4 and the engine off..then run over to the other side see if its going backwards

I had the same problem, turned out to be the universal. Replaced that and it started clunking worse. Turns out that when I put them back together, rotated the one shaft a 1/4 turn and threw it out of balance.

it something suspension wise then.

ball joints? CVs shouldnt clunk, maybe if you hammered on it while the wheel was turned full lock. then they would pop

im thinking ball joints maybe inner tierods.
