Got my limited slip installed...

on Saturday. This really is a mod I'd recommend for anyone. No more spinning one wheel when I take a corner quickly, just smooth power application. It makes my truck actually feel a little less powerful because I don't chirp the tires nearly as much when I'm driving aggressively, but I'm sure a trip to the track will prove that my truck is getting along quicker now with more traction. I don't know how hard I'm going to be able to launch this thing without blowing it up now!

Sweet deal. How much did it cost you if you dont mind me asking. I took a little hard launch with my stock 7.5 and 3:75 or whatever gears and umm... lets say they self destructed. So I'm looking at getting a 4:10 ls and maybe an 8.8 and trying to get ideas on cost. Thanks...

Well I went the bargain basement route the whole way;

I bought the diff for $40 used from a friend's fox mustang (he upgraded to 31 spline), got the clutch rebuild kit at Ford employee cost of around $44, and paid a Ford tech $200 under the table to install it, including new bearings, sythetic fluid, etc.

So I have just shy of $300 in the whole thing, which seems like a great deal compared to the going rate (the part is around $80 on ebay, clutch kit $50+, labor would have been over $300 at consumer rate, dunno how much bearing are (I'd guess around $10 each for Motorcraft parts) and the synthetic fluid is around $15/qt.

As for cost of upgrading a 7.5 to an 8.8LS, talk to Q (pickupman92), hes in the process of upgrading his 92 Ranger to 8.8LS with an Explorer axle, it involves getting new mounts welded on.

LS is a great upgrade. I thought my off road package had it. I was mistaken tho. I never crawled under to look. If I ever blow this rear up I will definitely go for a LS.

Yeah I'm very happy with it. I sort of miss hearing that one tire squeal when I drive angry, though.
