Whine noise while accelerating and driving
Like the title says, it's a manual trans and when I shift into first and start driving I start to hear a whine and its not rpm related. As I shift it goes away but the instant I'm in the next gear and push the gas pedal the sound comes back.
I've heard a couple things regarding this sound and I dunno where to start, could be the rear end, could be the throw out bearing, could be u-joints. I'm praying its not god it's not the rear and it shouldnt be with only 86xxx kms on the clock. I've never serviced the trans for anything in the time I've owned the truck aside from filling the slave reservoir, more in the past 6 months then when I got it.
As far as narrowing down where, I wanna say mid truck maybe towards the rear like its coming up from between the cab and bed.

I had the same problem, and like you said, it could be many issues. I started with u-joints, cuz they are cheap and easily replacable. If the noise persists after u-joints then it could be your rear diff yoke bearings. My end result was the rear yoke bearings. When under acceleration it was a bad whine, and would also give a brushing noise when just coasting. That is usually your rear diff, but I would start with u-joints, and for first timers, a good sat project. Let me know if this helps.

Whine noise
I have a 1996 ranger with auto trans. I had the hanger bearing replaced about 6 months ago. I had the same rattling noise, only at certain times. It has gotten worse lately.
I checked underneath and pounded on the driveshaft with my hand. Heard the same noise. It is a washer that is on the rear side of the hanger bearing. It is just on there, but it spins sometimes and make a hell of a noise. Check it out and let the group know if you find something. Tom

Nothing fixed yet with moving into the house, work and getting ready for Vegas it doesn't leave much personal time. I'll keep you in mind though when I talk to him. My plate is kinda full even though I know I need to deal with this. Truck's last payment is in feb or march and I still have drivetrain warranty so I might bring it in for a final check. As far as throwing money at a clutch or throw out bearing or anything in that area. Whateves. I'll wait til the new year, take my "truck payments" and do the clutch/slave maint. Like mentioned, it hasn't been touched or looked at in 5 years when I bought so I'll tackle it then.
At least the checking of the fluid would be free. Replacement gear oil is relatively lower cost.

But, I feel you. I've had a hub go bad in my truck 3 weeks ago, ordered a new one, just haven't had time to put it in.
