ive already took them off once and torqued them back on, but i have to take the ring gear back off again to check my front locker. i dont want to have these things breaking off in the ring gear on the third time torqueing them down.

 

If you're torquing them down to spec each time they should not break, that and make sure the threads are clean. One main reason for bolts snapping is debris like metal shavings binding the threads.

Bolts will wear over time, If your that worried about the stress from re-touring, you could always get new bolts.

 

EVERY TIME i install a ring and pinion, i use new ring gear bolts, a new crush sleeve (obviously) and a new pinion nut. I also put loctite on the bolts after cleaning the holes and bolts with brakleen or alcohol

 

I wasn't sure if you should treat it that way or not.
I've only done one or two and never really put them back together.

I'd do what Justin says, get new bolts, sleeves and nuts.

i would just need the ring gear bolts, im not taking the pinion gear out. those ring gear bolts arent easy to find. even harder to find thrust washers.

 

You can buy them from places like Fastenal.

That link is for 7/16 bolts. If you have 3/8, they also sell the bolts for that. i dont know that id use regular bolts since those bolts are pretty important

 

the thrust washer goes in between the carrier and the side spider gears on the open diffs. my aussie locker called for new ones if the tolerences were out of wack.

 

Got it. That clearance isn't something that ford measures or sets on this differential so i was reading the set-up manual trying to remember what this was!

 

yeah i might just take the locker out if its out of spec.
