Immediate opinions needed!!

The 7.5" L/S in my truck went, the gearing, bearings & L/S units.

I got a rebuild quote from my step-dad, with discount $1300 . . .

I can get a wrote off 96' Ranger 4x4 w/ 8.8" 3.73 L/S for $800, it has 280,000Km (less than my truck), would it be cheaper or easier to take my chance with buying this parts and swap axles truck than get the little 7.5" rebuilt?

I plan to maybe do a V8 swap or convert the 4x4 over in the next while, PLEASE guys, give me your honest opinion, I need to get this solved this week.

Are you in the USA?

I would get an 8.8 from a ranger in a wrecking yard for $250- $350. If you can do a Little work (welding) I would opt for one out of an explorer (l/s and disc brakes)

$1300, wtf? It will just happen again.
Buy a used 8.8" from a junkyard ranger and bolt it right up.

Oh and don't waste your time converting to 4x4. If you want 4x4 just buy a 4x4 truck. What's wrong with the other ranger for $800? You could always buy that truck and use your current truck as a parts truck if you wanted 4x4.

I definitely wouldn't dump that kind of money into a 7.5 diff and I wouldn't even consider a used 8.8 with 280,000 Km. Go find a good, low miles 8.8 L/S instead.

Thanks guys, yeah we have little to NO Rangers around here wrecked. The $800 Ranger is a full 1996 but it was rolled and totalled off.

I'll try to keep looking, but with my mom not wanting to go any route but loan me the $1300 on my ****ty axle the Ranger may be parked for a few months . . . why can't women understand the advantages of upgrading?

For 1300 you could buy an 8.8 and have it shipped from just about anywhere... Probably with new bearings lol.

yeah would she really even need to know where her money is going ? just say you found a better option that will cost less.

heck i sold my 8.8 LS for 150 with only 80k miles on it.

for 1300 i could have one sweet 31 spline 8.8, lol

ebay would be your friend here....you can find almost new 8.8's on there for around $300.......

and if you or your step-dad has welding experience, then get an Explorer 8.8 and put it in....it is stronger and has better brakes.....

Well I'm ****ed, she doesn't think I know jack about this stuff so she's paying my step dad (mechanic) who obviously isn't that bright either for letting her spend $1300 on a ****ty axle with 320,000KM.

Here is a site of axles I wanted but obviously I'm a dumbass teenager who just thinks of his own person advantage, **** I hate parents.

SALVAGE LINK

I wanted the 10,000K one, 31 spline, 8.8", 4.10 gearing, out of an 05' FX4 for $900 . . . and we rebuild the 7.5" with 3.73s . . . wow I'm going to kill something, I'm pissed right off.
