I just got a 98 ranger , 5 spd 4wd, no owners manuel so I am guessing at a lot of things.
Is there any special procedure to get it in lo 4wd? The light never comes on and it never shifts. It works in hi 4wd. Another thing I noticed is a popping sound from the motor , does it 2-3 times, noticed it first just after I started the engine, another time just with the key on. A sharp pop like a fire cracker. Never notice it driving down the road. It has the 3 v6
