Any body ever greased their shaft??
Ok guys, the u-j are ok. Two mechanics have said so. Both agree they think the slip-joint is going. To remind you i have an 05 edge 4x4 4.0 4dr ext. cab with auto trans. I was wondering, can you drill and grease the slip yoke, or fill it with silicone.... what can I do to calm the vib and get a few more mile out of this drive shaft. they both say drive it till it's actually bad then get a new one. Both are reputable, honest, and trustworthy. CAn it be done??????

I think he means to add a grease zerc.
edit- He beat me to it.

I just recently greased the slip joint on my Ranger driveshaft. I just disconnected the front, marked the shaft pieces for reassembly alignment, opened the front hose clamp, slid out the part, & cleaned and greased the splines, then reassembled using the previous alignment marks. My splines were in very good shape (60k miles). EASY!

first what it the problem ?
does it have the clunk or bump when first taking off after stoping at a light?
this is what mine was doing.
took the clamp off the rubber boot, the slip shaft splines were dry. lubed them up with good brake caliper slide grease and put it back together. been fine sense.

It is the rear drive shaft. I'll probably go ahead and do the uj's anyway. But as far as symptoms, just a vibe from 50-70 mph. Not bad yet, I am gonna go ahead and pull it apart and grease it up.. thanks for all the replies, i'll let yall know what happens.
