m5OD, 4wd vs 2wd

I am needing to replace the trans in my truck as it has a laundry list of problems. My question is, can i use a 2wd trans in a 4wd vehicle by swapping the rear housings?

As far as I know yes. Just swap the tailhousing and tailshafts.

yes you can swap the tailhousing but you have to take the 2wd tranny appart and put the 4x4 output shaft in

Because of the differing length or splines?

They are different lengths. You'll have to rebuild the tranny to swap the shafts. If you're going to go through that kind of trouble you might as well just rebuild your current tranny.
