Mileage Slipping Away w/Bad Clutch(?)
Mileage Slipping Away w/Bad Clutch(?)
So I'm driving our '99 Mazda B2500 w/5-spd. along the highway and I notice the RPMs are a bit high, and the mileage is suffering. This leads to a check of the numbers and reveals the following:
Axle code: 86 (7.5" dia. ring gear w/3.73:1 ratio, open diff.) Tire size/dia.: 225/75R15 (28.3") And according to the calculator suggested by a fellow member, the engine [while in top gear] should turn 2275rpm@65mph, 2449rpm@70mph and 2799rpm@80mph. Trust me.. according to the factory in-dash tach, it's seeing more than that.
I'm thinking it's time for a new clutch... so any high-friction, strong-clamping suggestions?
