My front diff fluid sorta change...pics
Had some Mobil 1 LS gear oil left over from the rear diff change and decided to go at the front. It was pretty clean still (58K miles) but I have been going through this truck and changing all the fluids, filters, etc. Obviously, there is not enough space to get the front diff cover off to do a complete drain and refill of the front diff so I did what I read on here and used a suction pump to get out as much fluid as I could, not a 100% exhcnage but better than nothing. I got about a quart out through the fill plug. Gotta love the rotten vegetable/vegemite/garlic smell of gear oil, old and new....yummy.
I went under and got the plug loose with the 3/8 ratchet but decided it would be easier just to yank the front tire and go through there. Came loose easily...
Plug was fairly clean, no metal shards so all is good. I prefer to put a wrap or two of teflon tape on the plugs when I put them back in, don't know for sure if its good or bad.
I suctioned out all I could get with the pump and simply added some hose to the gear oil bottle for the refill. Easy to get to with the tire off...notice my "redneck" creeper...an old welcome mat, works great!
Refill till it starts puking back out...keep the drain pan handy...I put some extra in (becuase I had it) just to flush out any floating garbage that may be in there.
Keep plenty of paper towels handy to clean up the seepage and mess thats left over. I left the drain pan under the truck to sit overnight. I'll crawl under there tomorrow to clean up any thats left on the pumpkin..
