Hey guys! I have a 2wd torsion front end. I replaced the rotors and pads, lubed up the caliper slide pins. When I brake the pedal feels as if the ABS is coming on? It only happens sometimes, maybe 1 out of every 5 pedal actuations. The dash light does not come on like it usually does when the ABS is operating.

I can feel the pedal getting light, just like when you skid in the winter time.

My ABS light doesnt come on when my ABS is working. I know it comes on in our car, but the van doesnt. I think that may be a vehcile specific thing. Something that you could try doing is checking that all of your wires are plugged in correctly.

 

If you feel a shaking in the pedal most common deal is a warped rotor. Or something is causing a misalignment with the rotor.

Pull the fuse for the abs to verify its not causing your problems. Then pull apart your brakes to check for a warped rotor.

 

Did you clean the brake dust off the sensor ring when you did the brakes? Sometimes if you have a build up, it'll cause the abs ti kick in prematurely.

 

Try that, and also take an allen wrench and take the ABS sensor off the knuckle and wipe it clean, sometimes brake dust, mud, ect. can git in there and give a false reading.

 

Hey guys! I rechecked the rotors and paid extra attention to the ABS rotor and sensor. I cleaned everything up, there was some dust and RUST. After i slapped it all back together, everything has been ok. I think it is a good idea to simply pull the abs fuse to help verify the problem. In my case after I did this, the brakes stopped flawlessly!!! Thanks for your help and I hope I can help anyone else in the future. From: Paul

 

Did you properly bed in the new pads? That was my first thought. Glad you got it handled.

 

I know you got your problem figured out, but a comment on my recent brake job:

I just replaced my whole front brakes, new calipers, pads rotors, bearings, the whole sha-bang.

Both rotors I bought did not have the abs ring seated properly. They rubbed the abs sensor. I had to take a 2x4 and a BFH and seat them down further into the rotor.

 

Gotta love the BFH...
