OD button non functional 03 Edge

I am slowly sorting out my new ranger 03 ext cab 3.0 2WD so I thought I would try here for assistance with my OD switch issue.

One item on the to-do list is the OD override button, currently it does not work at all. The light is not on in the dash and I am assuming transmission still goes to OD, rpm is about 2500 at 70 mph?

Do the OD switches usually go out and it would be just a matter of replacing the switch on the shifter? Or something internal in the tranny?

OD is the default, so it will still go to OD without the OD cancel being operative. It could be the switch itself but a more common failure is a break in one of the wires.

With the upper column trim removed, you can see two wires, usually black, that exit the hollow shift lever and then make a 90 turn and go forward down the column assembly. Chances are that one wire or possibly both have broken from fatigue.

[it also could be a burned fuse but that fuse serves several circuits. Since you haven't mentioned any other problems, then it shouldn't be a fuse issue.]

OK good then I don't need to be in a hurry to investigate as I still have OD. The tranny does need to be serviced just for good measure since I don't have records on it.
