oil plug o ring
Hay guys i see a lot of newer cars you need to replace the washer on the oil plug.
But the ford ranger 4L has a o ring my plug has this and it was in good working
order so i did not replace it. How do you feel about this

I agree, wait til you see a slight drip then replace the whole plug. The rubber rings wear out over time. Mine went after 12 years.
I have seen them on cars that have aluminum oil pans and steel drain plugs. I think they use them so corrosion doesn't build up between the two metals. Aluminum-steel-water and road salt cause a chemical reaction which builds up rust. Just like the rust on the back of aluminum rims on steel hubs. My father-in-law had a 06 Kia Optima and I went to the dealer for the oil filter (once) and it came with the new ring. I did a few more oil changes on that car but went with a Wix filter and started using teflon tape on the threads of the drain plug. Never any drips...
