I want my back axle to match my front...Options?? 08 FX4.

Ok as many of you know the rear axles seem shorter? than the front ones in the newer rangers. My rear tires still stick under the wheel wells while my front ones stick outside the flares. Is there any way i can get a different axle to fix this problem, ive heard the explorer axles work well for this. Ive also heard that getting a longer rear axle will throw the truck out of whack steering wise..

basically i just wanna have someone clear up this stuff for me. I want my back axle to match my front "stance" wise with the tires. If i were to get a new axle, what is all involved in that, and gear wise do i match it to the front gears or what.

absolute n00b when it comes to drivetrain crap lol help me out

Explorer axle is a tad wider. Just match the gears you have in front and some welding will be required. Search and you will find what you need to do to get that axle in.

how much of a difference is there in your truck? could wheel adapters or spacers correct it?

I don't like the spacer idea, but many do it and report no problems....I just don't trust it.

Explorer axle is 3/4" wider on each side..you could do that and gain disc brakes too. It's fairly common for an IFS front to be wider than the back.

you do know it is better offroad for the front to be wider than the rear? there are other good reasons the front is wider too.

Yeah id rather not run spacers, i get most of my flex out of the rear end as everybody knows with the IFS system. Last thing i need is a couple studs snapping under heavy flex. had a few buddys do that so id rather rock an expo axle.
