I got 35s on my truck and really could use some lower gears, Is there a truck that i can get some gears out of, like a stock truck at the junk yard. I got 35 up front and 8.8 lsd in the rear

 

Nope, cuz at minimum you would need 4.88's assuming you have the 4.0L.

5.13's would be perfect and no ranger came with anything deeper than 4.10's.

Even 4.10's are hard to come by cuz everyone snags them up for their Rangers with 33" tires.

What ratio is in it now?

 

bummer alright,, and yeah i got the 4.0 and i think i got the 4.10 cus i got the bigger axles. But you think i need 5.13 most people say 4.88. Will the lower gearing make my tranny shift weird, its a auto. Cus basically i want lower gears for more power and better MPG

 

Definately 5.13's. I have 4.88's right now with 33's and it is perfect....with 35's they wouldn't be deep enough.

Better to be overgeared than undergeared, you can always go up a tire size, but you cannot go down a gear ratio once it is done. without dropping another chunk of cash. Regearing is alot of hassle/money unless you can do it yourself, and not many can,

 

alrightty i see. And yeah cant i just do it myself, im pretty good with a wrench. Just as long as i dont need any special tools or gauges. Dont i just unbolt the old and bolt in the new

 

go 4.88. there are good reasons most guys run those over 5.13s. 4.88 are closest to factory feel with 35" tires, 5.13 are too much for highway driving

 

Yeah most people tell me to run with 4.88s, cus i do go on the highway every once in a long wile

 

its not only because of highway, the mechanical leverage created by the deeper 5.13 gears and bigger tires create much more stress on axle shafts and other parts. much easier to snap parts

 

I would never run 5.13's with 35's unless it's strictly a trail truck. If you wheel a good amount, go with 4.88's. Shane's running 4.88's with 35's on his 4.0 and doesn't have any troubles.

He has the older OHV, which doesn't have as much horse as the newer SOHC like yours does which is what I am assuming you have or are referring to.

I highway drive everyday, and would not hesitate to go 5.13's with 35's (I have the older 4.0L OHV). 5.13's put the motor at 2500 RPMS at 65 with 35s...perfect RPM for maximum torque, passing or towing power, and respectable gas mile (at least stock mileage).

The newer SOHC 4.0L motor doesn't need as much gear to keep the motor happy. Thus you can step up one ratio and be at the same overall result.

4.88s wont be bad, but offroad is gonna not be very creepy crawly.

The TTB HP Dana 35 is substantially stronger than the LP D35 with CV's found on the newer rangers, so no strength issues there. It is basically a watered down LP D44.

Keep in mind these two things guys (OHV and TTB D35) as it is a different game than the newer Ranger's front diff.

 

oh boy yeah thisll take some time, And yeah my trucks a daily driver and i go wheeling about once a month atleast.

 

i would put in 5.13s too if you do mostly city driving it will keep the tranny cooler rolling around town and in stop and go traffic

 

Don't do 5.13's. It's overkill.

 

Rolls eyes. Overkill is under rated and overgearing is somehow taboo here on RF for whatever reason which I will never understand.

What kind of driving do you do mostly? freeway? Around town? Whats your commute like?

Lets discuss the pros and cons of each and your ultimate goals for the truck. I hate to see ppl waste money like I did because I was in a rush. We all wanna do it right the first time and not waste money right?

 

Yeah i dont even got the money for gears yet, thats why i was wondering if i could scrap them off another truck. But i mostly drive around town every day, ill go on the high way about 2 times a month and the freeway maybe once every 2 months, So mostly around town, but i still want to be able to hit up the freeway with no problem, cus thats the main reason why i wannt different gear cus my truck dosnt tdo to due on the freeway its a slug lol

 

That's why I was suggesting 4.88's. Good all-around gear for a 4.0 on 35's IMO.
