popping in and out of 4 wheel

hello all,
this is my first post to this site and i have been reading around on it for a while and have not found any thing tha really deals with my problem that i have been having with my 99 for ranger 4x4, well i was driving it in 4 low( pulling a buddy of mine out of a mud hole) and i heard a load POP come from the front of my truck, well now every time i put it in 4 low or high it wants to pop out of 4 wheel drive, i have looked around the whole underside of my truck and have found nothing that apeears to be wrong , was not sure if i did some thing to the trasfer case, axles or ?, just wanting to nkow if any one had any ideas( or had the same thing happen to them), hope to hear from you and thanks again, clay

do you have a manual t-case or auto? i have a manual and it did the same thing after pulling a stump out. Apparently there was a TSB or something out for a part in it. The dealer fixed it no questions asked.

You have an auto t-case. I don't know about your problem, sorry.

A manual t-case is a lever you pull up which is right next to the stick shifter which will engage 4wd.

you dont think it would have some thing to do with the vacuum, lossing pressure and disengaging, i was reading around and was not sure if the live axle thing would help or not ,( and i am not sure exaclty what it does to your truck , what is the difference from what i have got now to the live axle), just trying to fix the problem, thansk again clay

it could be your hubs, id install lock in lock out AVM'S, or it could also be the 4x4 switch unit behind the radio bc i had mine go out on my 2000 and id lock it in and it would engage then kick it out and it would keep doing it.
