Power Steering Pump Replacement
Power Steering Pump Replacement
What is a decent replacement power steering pump for a 1997 Ranger 4 banger?
Prefer to buy local but not afraid to order online. Auto Zone and the like are probably crap.

Any of the parts stores carry them, and the price isn't too bad, $40-$60. The bad part is most are noisy, I replaced mine because it was whining loudly, and I didn't want it to quit in the middle of Winter. The replacement is louder yet.
The bottom line: if yours has quit there are reasonable pumps available, and they will probably be fine.....but loud.
Back in '85 the pump on my 79 F 150 quit, and the pump my local NAPA had was a Saginaw pump (as used on GM's) adapted to fit. I'm no expert on them, but I've read that they are a quieter pump by design. I checked NAPA and they don't seem to be doing that anymore....too bad.

Rock Auto has them for under $80 plus core.

I have seen posts from people who have gotten noisy Motorcraft pumps too. Check before you buy to see if the warranty covers noisy operation. You may swap 2 or 3 pumps before you find a quiet one, if you don't mind the hassle you will probably come out good in the end.
The white washer goes on the output fitting of the pump, push it onto the taper of a drift punch to slightly enlarge it, then slip it on the fitting after removing the old one. The old one was sealing fine on mine, as evidently was yours.
I'm glad to hear you got a quiet pump, my noisy one works well, and still howling away.
