pressure plate issue
pressure plate issue
I have a 94 XLT 4.0 5spd 93,000 miles At about 60,000 mile anyone who drove my truck complained about the "hard" clutch pedal. My friend who worked at ford back then said if I don't fix it I may punch a hole in the firewall
with slave cyl so I pulled trans and replaced clutch, pressureplate and throwout bearing. all of the old parts looked great. When reassembled with new parts the clutch pedal was easier than the gas pedal to push in and that lasted untill about 90,000 miles and its doing it again. This does not happen overnight but over time. So does anyone know about this? I don't want to pull it if I don't have to. Its very unusual. Thanks for your replys

My 95' 4.0 does the same exact thing. Got a new clutch and pressure plate and a few thousand miles later.....back to normal, harder clutch and sometimes it simply does not want to shift into certain gears. pisses me off.
That's odd. I've heard of the firewall breaking behind the levers on Rangers too! Maybe that's why. That would be an absolute nightmare if it happened to me. Did you change out your master too or just your slave when you did the clutch?

no kidding....that's my only complaint about this truck really.....is that warm stick of butter pedal. if only we didn't have these damned hydraulic clutch systems. I genuinely wish my chevy was still a manual for the pure fact that the clutch was hard as hell....as it should be.
