Question about a D44
Question about a D44
Hey guys:
On another wheeler site I go to saw this listing:
Dana 44 6-lug with 3.08 gears, complete lockout to lockout including calipers. $150 obo
Will throw in a set of flat-top knuckles for another $25.
I don't know too much about axles, but I'm know down the road I'm gonna look into doing an SAS. I know I'd have to rear-gear it, but is this a good deal? Also, what are the flat-top knuckles and should I throw in the extra $25 for them?
I believe the axle came out of a 76' Chevy Pickup.
Thanks for any help.
EDIT: Also, how much work am I looking at to have to convert this to the Ranger 5 bolt pattern? Would it be easier just to get new wheels?

it depends on the d44 but but generally that would be a pretty decent deal and the flat tops for 25 bucks is really good. asked if they are milled and tapped yet. if they are then dont question just buy and you can resell em later for way more money, but if not still, its a good idea to pick em up...
Sounds like the biggest issue. Buy the flat top knuckles though if they're real ones and let him keep the axle, lol. The kind that are fabbed flat-tops with ground tops aren't as good or strong. $25 seems real cheap to me.
Yeah but if it's full width... could you narrow it to have the pumpkin in the center?
I mean I don't think I'd want a full width as that 65"+ seems real wide too me. Think that's what a full width is.

well the rear yea you can do that..
but then custom shafts are needing to be made
but on the front its either drivers drop or passenger drop..but you would need to find a drivers to work on your truck..

you COULD narrow it any way you would like but factor in time, materials and labor because getting the axle tubes to stay straight would all be expensive factors, not considering custom shafts and spare custom shafts. youde be better off paying more for an axle with a drivers side drop. ask to buy the flattop knuckles I payed WAAAAAAY more for mine...
as for converting. theres only a couple lines of 4x4s that had 5x4.5 and they didnt have options for hubs. youde be better off buying new wheels...
