anyways.. does a R1 out of say a 4.0L 4x4 with tranfercase bolt up to a say 1993 2.3L ?

No. The only other engine that a 4.0 bell housing will bolt to is the 2.9 v6's. Each and every other transmission has their own bell housing.

 

mother ****er.. so a 4x4 3.0L R1 wont go in a 2.3L either.. wtf.. ok what in hell did the 2.3L 4x4 manuals have then dang it...

they have the M50D-R1. The only difference is the bell housing (which is removeable BTW).

For peats sake, please tell me you are not making the silver beast a 4wd!

you are correct. I was wrong. i went back and looked at the pictures of my M50D-R1HD that I put in the '97 and the bell housing isn't removeable. However the bell housings are removeable on the automatics and the older FM-145, FM-146, and Toyo manual transmissions.
