Rotor size, how big is yours?

Rotor size, how big is yours?
OK Whats going on here?
I just ripped off my stock rotors and am in the process of replacing them and putting in the Hawk LTS Pads. I get the new PowerSlot Slotted rotor on and hmmm seems a little smaller...so I take it back off and sure enough the NEW rotor is 11.25" (approx) and the STOCK rotor is 12" (approx) WTF???
So my two options are:
1) Put the new stuff on even though I'm losing a substantial amount of braking surface but "potential" gain with the slotted and new pads.
2) Go to NAPA or wherever tomorrow morning and get whatever they have, most likely stock BUT I wonder if they'll be 11.25" or 12"
So please discuss and report, oh and if you've never done your brakes or anything remotely related then please don't post "I think this, or I read this!"
Hard facts!

Not so. In 2003, on 4x4's, they went to the 12 inch rotors. 2002 was the last year for the biggest rotor being 11.25 (often spec'd as 11.28) inch rotor.
I have 2002 4x2 Edge and I have the 11.28" rotor, as do the 4x4's from 98+ (and maybe further back as well).
So, those of you with 2003+ have to pay attention to rotor size when ordering aftermarket parts for sure.

I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to get a goshdamn ruler, lay it accross my factory rotor and take a picture of it for you, since your name apprently is "Ford Parts/Products Directory/Library Database"
So what am I to do, because everywhere I've looked it specifies a 11.25/11.28 inch rotor?

my 03 EDGE had the 12's. my 02 XLT has the 11.25's.
if your stock rotors arent torn up, you could use them to break in the hawk pads while you get the correct rotors from powerslot. its better to break new pads in on used rotors anyhow. same holds true for new rotors, best to break them in with used pads. so you would end up with the best of both worlds as far as that is concerned.
i have seen people run the smaller rotor with the larger caliper placement, but its not a good idea and i wouldnt recommend it to anyone.....scary.....

You don't need to measure it for me. I believe you, lol.
It was a well publicized "feature" of the 2002 s: bigger brakes.
Mine was one of the last 2002's built and I had hoped somehow they had to use the "new" brakes on my truck...but no such luck, lol.
I'm on my third set of rotors on this truck, so I've done plenty of brakes on this truck, lol. Seriously though, call Ford if there's any doubt.

I'm beyond my expertise when it comes to up/down sizing rotors etc.

2WD continues at 11.28" through 2006 for sure, probably 2007 too.
The 2003 4x4's changed in midyear from 11.28" to 12". The changeover was supposed to have been in March 2003 although some owners dispute that date. My 2003 4x4 has a 5/2003 build date and it has 12" rotors.
Many aftermarket brake suppliers stop their 4x4 rotor listings at 2002. You can definitely get the 12" rotors from a Ford dealer. Just tell them it's a 2004 4x4 to avoid the size confusion in 2003.

Definatly a problem for most when getting new rotors....especially first timers.
When I replaced my rotors the confusion was with the fact that the Edge has the 4x4 suspension, but wasn't 4WD....at least mine is a 2WD. The guy couldn't figure it out, he wasn't any smarter then the computer screen in front of him. He was only giving year, make, model and getting an answer back. So after getting the wrong rotors the first time, the only other choise was......the other chioce....LOL
I can't recall what size rotors my 01 has, but before they get replaced again....I'm taking one off the truck and bringing it to the parts counter...LOL

All my past vehicles had rotors that slipped on over the hub and bolts......the Ranger was the whole damn setup, bearings and all........needless to say, when I replaced the pads and rotors, I also replaced the bearings and snap rings.

Reviving an old thread since I am shopping for front rotors and ran into the various sizes. I would like some clarity from those that have purchased and installed front rotors on a 2WD with coil springs on a 2003 XL. Can one put 12" rotors as an upgrade and the calipers will fit over them or if you have 11.29" rotors that's all you can install? Thanks
