to re-gear, or no to re-gear

don't worry i know all of the re-gearing info and all, i just wanted your opinion on something.

right now i have 3.55s, 4.0 and 32s. and i have recently come into some money (a commercial i did as a kid started playing again, so lucky me i got another check). anyways, i was thinking about re-gearing to 4.10. however, i live about 400 miles away from my school and i will be driving to and from school a lot.

so should i re-gear to 4.10 or keep the 3.55s. cuz with my 3.55s i get great highway mileage. and im happy with my power right now. let me know what you guys think

4.10s your mpg should be around 16-17. Id regear but if you are happy with the way the truck drives then why?

You know they come stock with 4.10s and 30s right? lol

2wd? I would actually go with 4.30's if so.
4.10's and 30" tires feel pretty good to me with an automatic.

see im trying to keep better highway mileage tho. i do WAY more highway than street driving. I mean im debating whether to keep 3.55 for highway, because im at like 2200 RPM at 80MPH, so i think 4.30 would be a little high for me.

I really think eventually, your tranny is going to hate you, and start acting up. I think that it is going to start hunting for gears, and heat it up quickly.

Go for the 4.10's then I guess, it will definitely be better than 3.55's.

well with the 4.0 is runs pretty well. ive had 32s and 3.55s for 50,000 miles so far and it runs great. so if my tranny is gonna hate me it already does. how much MPG highway do u think im gonna lose switching from 3.55s to 4.10s?

Beats me, I don't think it would be worse myself. With my sport trac (came with 4.10's and 30" tires) I only had it a short time before I lifted it, seems like I remember getting around 18mpg on a couple freeway trips (4x4 auto). Of course it is heavier and 4x4 too.

I just swapped my old 3:55's for 4:10's and couldn't be happier. I have the 4.0 and 32's also. It drives like a whole new truck with more power. 3:55's will wear out your tranny a lot faster. Make the swap. I promise you won't regret it!
