re: torsen dana 35 lsd

i got this email from torsen today .... We plan on launching a Torsen for the Dana 30 and 35 axles sometime in the November to December timeframe! We do not have a price yet but you should be able to check our website in a few weeks for updates and news on the launch. We initially plan on launching an online shopping cart for the release.

Thanks for the question and interest in Torsen!

no one makes a locker for the front end because it too narrow to fit a locker in so a l/s it better that an open diff

Aussie locker.....though it's rumored to be out of production now.

I drive the truck on the street...it's my daily. I've had spooled front and spooled rear before....not fun. I don't want the added pain in the *** with a locker. You know the advantage from going open rear to LS rear? You know the advantage to adding a front open axle to that? imagine adding a LS ontop of that. I simply do not need a front locker for what I do. But I want power to more than just 1 wheel up front as seen in the video below...I want more pull up front and the ability to steer it where I want to, again, as seen in the video. But without the hassle of a lockright/aussie/detroit style locker and having less impact on the CV shafts when I do get rough on it. I have one in the back and certainly don't want two of those things. Plus...how often do you really think an IFS rig has a front wheel off the ground?

You can see on the front, the power being transfered to one side at a time. Then later, you'll see me unable to get onto the street because of the one tire tire + not being able to steer or power up to the road and also when backing up. With an LS, it would help tremendously. A locker would help more, but I dont wanna deal with the side effects. **** won't unlock without a front shaft and if I snap a CV, I can't really drive the thing.

^^^ i guess after i posted i thought about it more for you guys since you do have hubs. so you cant just unlock one. but i get what your saying Shane i am worried about having a locked front end running in the snow on the streets. i have heard terrible things about them. yes when i put the l/s in the rear of my truck wow what a difference.

Not in on this application. Not the SLA IFS D35 found in 98+'s.

ditto on what shane said, I don't think I will have as much cv trouble with a L/S up front and if I get to a point where I lose traction with one tire up front then you can usually manueuver your front tires around to regain it. That is how you work an open diff but it would be so much easier with a L/S.

I just hope they don't overprice it

Yeah...It won't be worth it to me if it's priced above $800. I don't plan on going solid for quite some time.

They'll be pricey. This topic came up before, and I think they said they would be about $400-600 for a Torsen differential for the front.

Just so that no one goes misinformed. There currently ARE BOTH L/S AND Locking differentials available for IFS Rangers and IFS RBVs.

Available options for '98+ Ranger front differentials are:

L/S:
Quaife A.T.B. : Link (same as Explorer)
Torsen (Available Soon)

Lockers:
Aussie Locker : Link
Powertrax Lock-Right : Link
Powertrax No-Slip : Link

See https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ial-guide.html for more information.

The Quaife price is retarded. $1,695 for peg leg in some situations. I agree with Shane on the Torsen price. Any more and its not worth it. Also it doesn't say a year so technically it could be only for the older Explorers unless you got conformation from the company.

^^agreed. Said exact same thing I was going to say about the Quaife. As far as the richmond options, it's been rumored those are long out of production and so is the aussie. Has anyone tried to order the lockrite or the no-slip?

Oh...your link to the Quaife, is a link to Aussie(which as you can see in the link, you can't even order the front Aussie anymore....)

That's gay, I wonder why they aren't making the front aussie any more. Or maybe they ran out and haven't made a new run...?
IF the quaife diff is for real it is WAY too much money for a limited slip. Hopefully torsen actually starts selling the front limited slip, and for a decent price. They have been saying they were going to start selling the diff for so many years.

There was a for sale ad from a guy that I assume was a business owner over at TRS selling his units on shelf of the Aussies for like 175. In the ad it said they're now discontinued. This has been some months now, and now Aussies site you can't even order it anymore.

The Quaife link I posted was for the same Explorer differential that the IFS Rangers have IIRC, but I'd have to look up the reference again. In any case, I've talked to a guy who has a Quaife in the front of his Ranger, so the model exists (it wasn't a one off). I could get you his contact info if you'd like, but I'd have to look that up too. Quaife doesn't move too many of them in the U.S. The U.S. distributor at first thought I was crazy when I mentioned the thing, but they mainly sell to the racing crowd.

When I talked to an engineer at Richmond Gear in August, he seemed to talk like it was still in production. You might need to call them though. What might be the case is that Richmond still makes it and has inventory, but their retailers don't keep it in stock because it doesn't move very well.

I know I've seen them on ebay though. I've had a standing ebay search for that kind of stuff for the past three years.

Edit: I haven't personally checked on the Aussie Locker though. Waiting to hear back from their tech department.
