31" spline limited slips, dont work on 28" spline limited slips..

31" Spline LS, will not work with a 28" axle? Same 8.8 right?

 

im 99% sure that you cannot cross splines, because obviously 31 splines will not fit into a 28 spline slot, the only way it could possible work is if it was stepped inside so that 28 spline axles would go further in, but i highly doubt that. someone who knows the 8.8 a little better could say for sure, all i know is the 9 inch

 

i have no idea why he said it will work with a 28 count spline axle unless he means swapping the axle shafts. there is no way to make them work unless u swap axle shafts as well.

do the rangers with the 4.ho and 8.8 have 28 splines and FX- have 31 splines?

 

All recent 8.8" Rangers have 28 spline axles except the 2002 FX4 and the 2003~2005 FX4 Level II which have 31.

 

oh i see. well that kinda sucks...

 

im not sure you can even swap the shafts the 31 spline has a biger housing then the 28.

shaft can still can snap like a pretzel if you push it enough

Unless Carl swapped in a 31-spline axle assembly, he broke a 28. That's all that was available in 2001.

 

They were, in fact, 28 spline.

Leo, the are not 28" and 31", just 28 and 31 spline.

Yeah, I think he has a 28 spline, but soon to be a 30 spline d44 on both ends!

 

Also, that auction said it was perfect for UPGRADING to 31 spline from 28, not that it was for 28 spline. I'm about to go 31 spline with a rebuilt FX4 axle in my truck with the ECTED locker.
