Icon4 rear end up grade

ok i have a 96 ford ranger it has a 7.5 rear end with 3.73 gears im puting an 8.8 rear end under it with 4.10s

The only problem im having is that the rear end i got i got from a friend and he blew the gears in it. the question i have is will any 8.8 32 spline work for it? like an 8.8 for a mustang for instent?

im puting this rear end under it because im already on 31s but im going to lift it anuther 4inchs along with the 2inch lift thats already on it and put 32s or 33s and by puting this rear end under it i will have a thicker stronger rear end and i will be going from a 3.73 with open to 4.10 with limited slip

but if any one can anwer my question i would be very thankful and i could get stared on it

any 8.8 gears would work, but if you're replacing the whole carrier, you'd have to get a the same spline to match. some mustangs are 28spline, but some cobras are 31spline.

im sure it came out from under my friends 01 fx4 and i counted it to make sure it was 31 lol i wanted to be sure

my friend blew the gears doing a burn out with 33s and just went and got a whole new rear end from a junk yard

they didn't make an 01 fx4. But in 02 they did, and the torsen on those the early models were notorious for blowing out, so i bet that is what happened. But yes, any 31 spline carrier would work for your 8.8.
lol that you counted. it is really difficult to do, espically when you end up with 29 or 30 and you're sure you got them all....i tried once....

also what gears would you guys recommend he run with 32's? he has a 3.0 5 speed and will most likely be putting a trac loc in that 8.8

with my 31's i have 4.10's, i run high RPM on hiway though, much higher that i like... but the power is lots! more than i really need, seeing as i still have 4x4 low... i can spin all 4 tires in snow, 4H... so i would go either 3.73's or 4.10's

Go 4.10s with 32s unless you plan on going to 35s in the future then go 4.56s
