95-01 all, 4door V8s and some V6s came with LSD
02-03 sport

IDK about Sport Tracs. The two that I have looked at were both drum.

Okay.....I'm not "disgruntled" anymore. lol.

Explorer's came stock with Disc brakes.....that is the V8 models, and some V6 i believe. To make them fit in our Rangers, you'll need to cut the old spring perches and weld new ones on because explorers are spring-under, and rangers are spring-over. I beleive shock tabs will need to be moved as well, and you'll have to do something with the brake cables and hoses.

I believe Mr. Bob Rwenzing did something involving Explorer brake parts, but the stock Ranger axle.

My Ranger rear disc setup uses Mustang SVO rear rotors and Eldorado calipers on custom brackets, no Explorer parts.

Bill (04LVL2) and I swapped the Explorer disc brakes to his Level II but that only works as a bolt-on with the unique 31-spline axle on the Torsen-equipped axles. All other Rangers are 28-spline and the flange patterns are different from the 31-spline Explorers.

If you really want to try something I think this would work

Weld these on http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/...xle-p-141.html

use some 75' 3/4 ton chevy calipers and pads

and some 2003+ Ford Ranger Front Rotors

I have never tried it but I think you could make it work.

The two Sport Trac's that I have seen in person did not have disks. My neighbor's 02 and CougarX on explorerforum's 02.

Not all are L/S as I personally have replaced Kabukie on explorerforum's open rear with a L/S after he blew it up going down the drag strip. I still have a chunk of planetary gear in my garage to remind me that open diffs suck.

Edit: I was looking for pics of cougarx's brakes and aparently his came with an open diff too. I knew he replaced it with an Ausie Locker. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...63#post1342863

What if you have done an axel flip to lower it? Will it bolt right in then? Are the spring perches the right spacing?

The 95~2001 Ex axle will bolt in at the perches and give a 5~6" drop compared to a stock 2WD XL. You would still have to do something about the upper shock mounts because they mount in a different location compared to the Ranger shocks.

There is a how to for this but the pictures aren't working.

Actually all explorers 95-01 have disc brakes Period! Reguardless of limited slip option. I have every year brochure, and my parents owned every year of explorer except 97, All V6's all open diffs and All 95+ with rear discs. My 2000 is four wheel disc with open diffs and a V6
